Rosemary the Pacifier Fairy

Picture Book; General Fiction (including literary and historical); (Market)

What’s a baby’s best friend? A pacifier of course! There to help babies soothe in the night, always nearby to make everything right. As children grow up, they need their soothers less each day. But do THEY know that? Children love the story of Katie, who gets a visit from Rosemary the pacifier fairy when she’s a baby. They especially love the part where toddler Katie can’t quite give the paci up! When Katie is ready to let her best friend go, she sees the paci fairy one more time and realizes that giving up their pacifier is a brave thing to do.

Rosemary the Pacifier Fairy, written by Lindsey Coker Luckey and illustrated by Lora Look, is the story of Katie, a baby who loved her pacifier. She had received it from Rosemary the Pacifier Fairy when she needed something to comfort her through the nights and days as she grew. As babies often do, Katie used her Paci every night, then slowly began to let it go as she became surer of herself. Rosemary had told her that this was how it worked; one day she would no longer need the comfort of Paci. Why is it so important for Katie to have Paci? Will she outgrow it? Where will Paci go when she gets too big for it?

Rosemary the Pacifier Fairy by Lindsey Coker Luckey is a children's story with a strong plot about the insecurities children feel as they go through the motions of growing up. I love how Lindsey Coker Luckey lets the concept of a child's need for comfort during the early years shine through in baby Katie's thoughts and ideas. The illustrations by Lora Look are beautifully colored displays of what the story is all about. I love Rosemary the Pacifier Fairy as it describes the ups and downs a child faces as they go through the stages from babyhood to childhood and how a sense of security can come from something as simple as a pacifier. I recommend this story to anyone with kids that are of reading age or anyone who enjoys reading a story to children.
