A boy, of unusual circumstances, is born into a Mississippi town pervaded by inerrant Bible believing fundamentalists, some of whom suspect the boy was cloned from a transubstantiated Communion wafer. He is raised as a devout fundamentalist but confronts the question of what is sacred and to whom. A physician, who contends with the pro-life sentiments of his hospital administrators to care for his cancer patients, serendipitously follows the boy as he grows up and faces a crisis.
