Sara's Year
Mark David Gerson, author
Adult; General Fiction (including literary and historical); (Market)
Esther and Sarah share a single passion: to be the best they can be – on an epic scale. That's easier dreamed than done in Jewish Montreal on the eve of World War II. Fifty years later when death takes Esther, her son and her oldest friend must each decide whether Esther's abandoned dreams will defeat them or spur them on to triumphs of their own.

Gerson is a superb story teller with a flair for flowing dialogue. Although I had figured out many of the book's surprises, I still could not put it down. The story just rips along and at the end, Gerson still managed to throw me off with some things that I never expected or anticipated.

I have always felt that literature is there for two reasons: to give us a chance to look at others' lives and to teach us something. Sara's Year does both and it does so with great style. I did not want this book to end; when it did, I started reading it again.
