Will Ian and Cassie get their second chance at love, or will her secret destroy them both? After Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander Ian Chase's last brutal tour in Afghanistan, he and his brother resumed control of their private security company and the rest of their international conglomerate, Chase Group.
At a charity function, Ian has a chance meeting with art historian Cassiopeia Ellis and is surprised to learn she's undercover with the FBI. He's even more drawn to this enigmatic redhead than the first time he met her.
An FBI agent specializing in uncovering stolen art, Cassie is plagued by nightmares and fear surrounding an unfathomable trauma she sustained six years earlier--the same night she originally met Ian Chase. Seeing him again stirs up the feelings she once had for him, along with ghosts from her past. The problem? She's repressed her memories of the crisis she endured that night.
Cassie's enemies need to snuff her out before she can remember what happened that fateful night. Can Ian keep Cassie safe from harm, or will her desire to shield him from her past obliterate any chance of a happily ever after together?
This is the book that started it all. When I first opened the book, I noticed an extensive cast list and I thought- Hmm. What is this? It did come in handy during the course of this first book because there are a lot of characters! By now, I've bought, read and loved the prequel and 7 books in the series and I know these people like close, dear friends but in the beginning it helped to reference who a character was and more importantly how they fit into the story.
I read alot and R.L. Dunn has jumped from a- who is this? to- Oh my goodness this is great! I look forward to each new addition! This is first and foremost a story of love- yes, there is a romantic story of 2 people but there is also the love of a group of retired SEALS who formed a company to protect the innocent. The continuing devotion of these men to each other and the ever-widening expanse of medical personnel and great men and women to their group is heart warming in a way that we all need- a friend that has your back- ALWAYS.
This is a intelligently written story of high intensity suspense, medical detail and of course, the romance of a special man and woman. Thank Goodness, the author does not lean on the overtired-trope of a misunderstanding that breaks the couple apart only to come back together when they finally COMMUNICATE. Give the book a try. I think you will love it like I do!
