There are more than one hundred billion stars in the universe, and since the beginning of humans living on Earth, there have been more than one hundred billion babies born. Pretty amazing, don’t you think? But did you know that everyone is like the stars that shine above us? We are important and special; we are stars. We don’t have to be rich or famous or shine brightly beneath the stage lights. All we have to do is work hard and well to make this world a better place. That’s what makes us stars. And, when our time on Earth is done, we can join the other billions of stars in the galaxy and shine brightly once more for those loved ones we’ve left behind.
Pamela Tomlin’s picture book story, Shine On, My Bright Little Star, is an encouraging, inspirational story for young readers to build their sense of purpose and self-esteem. It focuses on our connection to the stars and how we are born with a special gift to make this world a better place. The powerful message repeated in this gem of a book is to be the best we can be at what we’re good at doing. “Whether your gift is great or small, it matters not at all. You have a unique ability. Find your gift and shine in your place on this earth. Each person is a star.” Beautifully illustrated with stars on every page, this sweet story will capture the hearts and imaginations of readers, young and old. As well as this important message, the story also consoles the young reader who may have recently lost a loved one and will help them accept that the lost one’s star is still shining in the night sky above. Life, like a star, is beautiful, and we must embrace our inner talents, big or small. Loved it!
