Arthur and Jenna are on a nature retreat with five other couples. They are going to stay in some cabins and get back to nature. Cheryl and Robert are navigating and stop at a grocery store for supplies. Arthur encounters and old man who asks where they are headed. When Arthur tells him Jim’s Peak, he is warned not to go up there as there is real danger up there. Arthur dismisses the man's words. The group stop for lunch at a diner. There are some hunters inside and Arthur overhears them saying they are going after ‘it.’ The waitress tells them that there is a monster on the loose. Arthur is worried by this, but they head up anyway. He starts to relax once they get outside, sure that there is no monster. They hike up to the cabins, but on arrival they discover that while one is pristine, the other is completely trashed and there are claw marks everywhere. Arthur, Robert and Mark investigate, Arthur arming himself with an axe. They are horrified to find a man's body. He has been torn apart and the top half of him is missing. They assume that it was a bear attack. In the morning they will ride back to town on the horses and get help. Arthur picks up a radio and a journal in the cabin. They don't tell the others about the body and fix the door on the cabin. Arthur tries to get the radio working. \t As they settle in for the night, Arthur reads the journal and sees the word demon written in it. He falls asleep and is awoken by the others. It is deathly quiet outside. Then they hear squelching footsteps. They look outside to see a lumbering monster with red eyes. Paul goes out to face it with a gun, but the monster kills him. They arm themselves with a gun and hide in the back room. Robert is killed. The only way to escape is out the window and to the river. The survivors make a run for it to the canoes in the river. The monster follows but won't go all the way into the water. Arthur, Jenna, Cheryl, Mark, Beth and Linda, get back out on the trail and come across a mine. They decide to hide in it and hope the monster won't find them. There are bodies inside, the hunters from earlier. They also find some dynamite. Arthur can rig it up and they can use it to blow up the monster. Cheryl tries to lure it in while the other women keep watch. Cheryl leads it back as Arthur lights the fuse. Unfortunately the damp cause it to go out. Mark grabs a stick and lights it. He runs at the creature, throwing it to him. It catches the stick of dynamite and it explodes.
