Tish Thawer has a special quality to her writing that makes whatever she puts to paper become an all-encompassing read. I was sucked into The Daughters of Maine just as much as the first book in the series, if not even more. The storyline is utterly addicting with characters that burrow their way into your veins. Thawer has an incredible knack for world-building, which made The Daughters of Maine absolutely magical – no pun intended – and I’m already craving more from these sisters.

I love getting to see the same characters as the first book, yet developing a feeling of meeting someone new as well. With the time travel to a past life, I was fascinated by how much the core of these personalities stayed true to what we’ve come to expect, yet presented an entirely new way of showing growth and transformation. Though I absolutely adore the sisters as individuals, it was their yearning to become a stronger unit that called to me the loudest. The underlying lessons and methods to do this were so obvious, but not always the easiest to achieve, and it was quite amazing to watch the sisters strive for it.

“Goddess of old, Goddess of new, protect our souls, through and through. Be with us on this day, so that we may return unharmed in any way.”

I felt like this book had so much more action than the first, which resulted in a really quick-paced read. From that very first page, we are thrown back into the craziness that the sisters have found themselves in and as the plot unraveled, I felt myself literally losing time because I had to keep digging to get to the bottom of what was going on. There is an entirely new setting introduced in Daughters of Maine and it added a unique, fresh element. The family was out of their comfort zone, yet found out who they were more than they could in the present day. The way Thawer wrote this aspect really drew me in, especially with the way she brought it all together in the end.

The only downside for me as a reader is that now I have to wait and see what happens next! Tish Thawer has created such a breathtaking read that will leave you guessing and reeling at every surprising turn. She keeps her stories fresh and her characters evolving, resulting in earning a reader for life. The Daughters of Maine may not end in a total cliffhanger, but it will definitely leave readers thirsting for more. Once again, Thawer has written a spellbinding tale, and I never want to be rid of her magical cast.
