The Evolution of the Flubb
This little book, first of a trilogy 'The Adventures of the Flubb', is an account of the evolution of the Flubb, a strange creature driven by a restless search for words – and porridge. He rises from scratch – literally out of nothingness – to the giddy heights of becoming a word-taster for an unusual dictionary project. On the way he learns about the wicked ways of the world, receives an education (of sorts), and passes through a succession of jobs and travel experiences. The high points include having his own TV show as famous porridge chef and a brief spell as Archbishop of Canterbury, the low ones include cleaning the toilets in the Canon Street tube station and stoking in the hold of an ocean liner. His oddities make him a figure of fun, and people are constantly taking advantage of him, but his naive good nature always brings him through unscathed. All the time he is storing words in his ample belly – though it takes him a long time to learn how to deploy them in an acceptable manner. Suitable for young adults or adults young at heart - anyone in fact who enjoys playing with words.
