My eight year-old daughter and I absolutely LOVE this book. So much so, that i bought a copy to donate to her school. The book teaches compassion and understanding, about being good to one another, but in a unique way. I recommend it for all people of every age. And the illustrations are very sweet.

What are in the ingredients to a good children’s book? As in any genre there are of course a number of different solutions. But surely they should include a story kids can understand, good illustrations and, if they contain a moral, something useful to young children.

The Frog with a Frown contains all these elements. The journey of a frog from sadness to joy is something even little kids can understand. The illustrations are lively, colorful and in keeping with the book’s message. The moral, that each individual is special and worthy of love and that love makes the world a beautiful place, is admittedly not original. But this isn’t a book for adults who have a need to read something that hasn’t been said before.

Instead, it’s a book for those just opening their minds to the world. Giving them the confidence to see it as it is and not fall into some form of early childhood depression is an important message in an era where kids are having more and more emotional problems.

In short, The Frog With a Frown is a well-written book for young children. I recommend it to all parents who want their children to approach the world with that sense of wonder, joy and love which is natural for our species.

The Frog With A Frown by Todd G. Sorrell is a children’s story that addresses problems of self-esteem that children and young adults face every day. The frog, feeling poorly about his self-image, is sad all the time because he feels that he’s not worthy of friendship, happiness or even a simple smile from a passerby. A dragonfly asks Frog several questions about his nature and points out some things he did not know. With Frog’s self-esteem so low, can Dragonfly say or do anything that will ultimately change Frog’s self-image? How can simple words change how one feels about themselves?

I loved The Frog With A Frown. Todd G. Sorrell has effectively expressed the emotional and self-image problems that feed self-esteem issues in a manner that kids can understand. The characters are fun, relatable and understanding as the plot centers on important issues in child development. The vibrant pictures add delightful images that tell the story as easily as the words do. I love how Sorrell plays to the minds of kids throughout the plot while pointing out key areas of emotional distress that can be addressed through communication and understanding. The Frog With A Frown is a wonderful story that could easily help kids realize they are worthy of friendship and love. I look forward to many more stories like this by Sorrell that have a great plot with a message that will encourage the emotional development of children. I recommend this story to anyone who has children.
