The Goose Pond Fund
Tom Lytes, author
Sam, a math prodigy, leaves the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts for MIT
with a benefactor’s scholarship in hand. At the same time, his best friend Jake takes
over his family’s business distributing marijuana. Their paths converge again when Sam develops a
commodity trading program and starts Wall Street’s newest darling, the Goose Pond Fund. Jake
becomes an unlikely investor, sending Sam fifteen million dollars and a cryptic note.
When Jake is found dead on the Main Street of their Berkshire town, Sam runs afoul of a
small-town police officer who’s more interested in keeping secrets than enforcing the law. Sam
turns to Jake’s unscrupulous and lovely sister for help only to realize Jake was trafficking more
than drugs. Sam begins to wonder who he can trust as even his new friendships become strained
when the Fund’s trading program starts to perform erratically. Suddenly, The Goose Pond Fund
is losing money fast.
Sam is forced to reevaluate his relationships as he unearths a paper trail connecting a
corporate giant to a non-profit in the Berkshires. When he’s framed for a massive toxic waste
dumping conspiracy that originated before his time at MIT, he begins to wonder if it might connect to the mystery of Jake’s murder.
