Ultimately she meets a sweet, loyal Italian Catholic widower with a family that welcomes Jody—but it brings on anger from Mother and Jewish guilt for Jody! Through many ups and downs and hilarious "nervous breakdowns" that take the reader from Boston to California and Maine, she finally takes charge of her life, throwing off the yoke of a narcissistic mother and others who have kept her down. The novel is about rediscovering one's own life, especially for those with "Mommy issues," and standing up for oneself. Go Jody!
