The Open Book: A Family Memoir of Adventure, Trauma, and Resilience
The Open Book: A Family Memoir of Adventure, Trauma, and Resilience is a tale in which love and forgiveness triumph. The story began fifty years ago when two young dreamers built a life together on an off-grid homestead in the Belizean jungle. When a hurricane destroyed everything they had worked so hard to create, it was tempting to give up––but they persisted and thrived, until their family fell apart under mysterious circumstances. Thirty years later, their daughters set out to find the truth of what happened. In The Open Book, multiple voices are woven together to provide a unique portrait of one family’s wild-but-true experience from four different perspectives. This honest and uplifting story celebrates the strength of women, the power of love, and the resilience of the human spirit.

100% recommend this book to anyone who can appreciate a genuine, truthful story about family, love, loss and healing! It is equal parts heartwarming and heart wrenching. From the moment I picked it up, I couldn't put it down! From unbelievable tales of adventure and working farm life in the jungles of Belize to the very relatable stories about childhood, young adulthood and growing up in California -- I was truly moved by it all! If you're anything like me, you will thoroughly appreciate this read, and you might even find yourself inspired to reflect on your own personal journey. I am certainly encouraged by the bravery of the three beautiful women who wrote this book to reflect on my own life and relationships.

How can one write a short review of such a vast and touching book? There is just so much here to wrap your head around, but once you start reading, you''re a will not be able to put it down. Each chapter leaves you wanting more, because these ladies will write their way straight into your heart. Well done.

This book blew me away! I devoured the text, so curious what would happen next. This story is so unique, yet hums with underlying universal truths that make it relatable to any reader. It depicts strong woman surviving and ultimately thriving despite the odds. The story paints vivid depictions of the jungle that made me feel enveloped in another world. Fantastic read!

A raw, intimate telling of a remarkable true story. It kept me riveted until the last page, left me deeply moved, and wanting more. Compelling, engaging, both heartbreaking and inspiring. I highly recommend this book!

This book is truly thought provoking, engaging, and well written. As I read I felt like I was actually in the environments that were described- smelling the smell of the ripe mangos, hearing the streams ripple, and feeling the bare ground of Belize under my feet. The imagery is rich and captivating and the story, equally so. It’s one of those books you keep thinking about long after you finish reading it. I finished it in 3 sittings as I could not put it down! I commend these three women for bravely sharing their story in a raw and beautiful tone. It is full of honestly, pain, and healing, and highlights the fact that those we love dearly have experiences, thoughts, and feelings that sometimes need the healing that time and experience brings before those things can be shared.
