Lord Worthington awakens one morning to find he can see into the spiritual world. He experiences horrifying nightmares of being buried alive, and a prescient feeling that he is about to die. Making the long journey from London to Cornwall, in order to aid an ailing artist, he realizes it may have been the worst decision of his young life, however altruistic. The longer he stays, the more he fears that the premonition is true when he confronts a ghost bent on killing him.
