The Rostrum
W T Sanders, author
Ripped from the headlines, The Rostrum tears through a story of political Armageddon. Second-rate FBI agent Stan Thompson stumbles upon the plan—something big is going down. Soon. ros∙trum [ros-truh m] Any platform, stage, or the like for public speaking. A pulpit. And now, based upon this literary work – a sinister instrument of destruction. The Rostrum is a politically based crime thriller laced with threads of actual historical events within the U.S. and will leave readers wondering: could it be possible? Based upon his track record, FBI Special Agent Stan Thompson has never been much of an investigator. But somehow in Little Rock, Arkansas, Thompson becomes an unanticipated player in a game of intrigue when he stumbles upon a powerful group’s preparations to overthrow the current elected government. Formed in Civil War times, this secretive order has amassed great wealth and power over the decades, and is now actively implementing its vision of an ideal United States. Turbulent socioeconomic conditions set a favorable table for this order’s audacious and ruthless plan—a plan to instigate a nationwide level of violent unrest and conflict sure to plunge the country into chaos and the government to the brink of collapse. Young Secret Service Agent, Matthew Foster, eager to reclaim his family name within the agency, unwittingly becomes an accomplice to unleash the carnage that ensues. The premise of The Rostrum hypothesizes the impact of a very public and violent attempt to assassinate the next African-American contender for the White House when powerful forces are poised to covertly fuel civil unrest across the country. The question is, can a hapless Federal agent like Thompson get ahead of the power curve to interrupt the precisely planned chain of events, or will the United States become only a reference period in the history books of future generations?

Mr. Sanders' great knowledge into the workings of several Federal agencies makes this book very credible and makes one think about current events. I was searching Amazon for a new book, when I ran across “The Rostrum.” What initially attracted me to this book, was the vast expertise and qualifications of the author, W.T. Sanders, to write a book about domestic terrorism and an extremist group’s potential efforts to overthrow our government. Mr. Sanders’ extensive experience in counter-terrorism and nuclear physical security, gives him unique insight and perspective to write a book on this topic. What his book effectively theorizes is how politically deviant individuals, feigning patriotism, could effectively influence otherwise normal Americans, to engage in extremist acts of political violence. Most interesting and very disconcerting, is the great detail in which Mr. Sanders describes various ambush and other scenarios, where small groups of dedicated extremists, could cause violent disruptions to our normal political activities, and cause mass casualties. He also effectively shows how our integrated law enforcement agencies, must act in unison to counter and defeat potential acts of violence by these politically motivated extremist groups. I highly recommend this outstanding book to anyone interested in reading about acts of domestic political terrorism and how it has potential to disrupt not only our political existence, but international stability as well.

Having spent over 30 years working federal inter-agency operations in everything from protective service operations to counterintelligence and counterterrorism, I very much appreciated the details and accuracy of the story line which is frankly often missing from authors who haven’t lived this life. The true to life cooperation between agencies, as well as the miscommunications, and sometimes the flat ignoring of each other brings a realism to the story that anyone who carried a badge can appreciate. It was a great, yet terrifying story, full of treasonous insiders and good guys just trying to save democracy. A fun read. Congrats on the first novel! Look forward to the next one.

5 Star - One of the best political trillers I have read. As good or better than Patterson and the other major writers. Once you start reading it’s hard to put it down because it keeps you guessing. W,T. sanders will become one of the best. Great story line and in today’s world so believable . Can’t wait till he puts out another one.
