Blood Was Everywhere
While watching the Atlanta evening news, private eye Vern Wister learns of a shocking murder-suicide at local technical documentation firm. The gunman, just before pulling the trigger, had uttered some cryptic words. Intrigued, Wister researches and discovers a connection to a different, unsolved, execution-style double-murder in a small town in Ohio...25 years earlier. Wister informs his boss, Nick Montaigne, who has just returned from an aborted ski vacation. Montaigne-Wister are soon hired by the gunman's daughter, anxious to clear her father's name of a hate crime. The two gumshoes travel to Springbrook, Ohio, a town seemingly stuck in time, and begin interviewing a host of strange characters, assisted by a crusading news reporter with a substance abuse problem. They become embroiled in COVID-era espionage and the byzantine workings of the military-industrial complex. Can they solve this 25-year-old cold case? (Based on a true crime.) If so, will Wister have to keep his vodka bottle capped? Will Montaigne have to keep his zipper zipped?

On Saturday, November 11 I joined other local authors at Mulberry Street Books in Lebanon, Ohio for a book signing. The event went really well. I not only shifted copies of "The Shades Dripped Red" and my other books, but networked with other Cincinnati-area authors. A good time was had by all!
