The Song in the Silence

This work speaks of the agony of living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that resulted from an incestuous rape before reaching the age of thirteen, the highs and lows of Bipolar Disorder and a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder were also her crucible. Experiencing rape, madness and the disappearance of identity requires more that human effort to comprehend. The beauty of this book is that it doesn't leave you petrified in doom and gloom. This gripping journey leads you through pages peppered with humor, moments of quietude and joyous release from the pain that has clutched your heart for so long.

"The Song in the Silence", is about God's loving compassion and practical guidance through to peace from the turmoil of our lives. He gives us Shalom even as He makes plans for giving us a hope and a future. Ancient biblical instruments of music are called in from our recollections to set the tone and purpose for each chapter.

The drama was played out in the circuit court of a tropical Isle and on the front page of the newspapers and in the staring condemning eyes of neighbors. Ignominious recognition and questions about a childhood shame followed the author for over 30 years. Yahweh was there to give of His strength.

The struggle to assimilate was one of the hardest. Under the pretext that all was well, the biggest of all lies was struggling to stay alive. Attempts at suicide and the struggle to stay alive are chronicled. The scenario of the crisis spoken of here is the experience of many hurting boys and girls, men and women, especially those within the faith community. The Song in the Silence was born out of one persons experience but touches on the lives of countless others. This book speaks of hope, survival and a path to recovery.

Mind, body and soul are linked. Trauma and shame of sexual abuse are linked to early onset of Bipolar Disorder in this book. The 204 pages of The Song In The Silence: Surviving Abuse and Madness, chronicles the journey of a young girl to womanhood through to complete madness and back. How do you know when you are insane? What does it look like from the inside? Written through episodes of cognitive ‘mush’, the beautiful poetic language of the story, in a tropical setting, is guaranteed to leave you with a sense of hope and triumph.

Breaking the Silence, healing the pain

By Brigid E. Kenney on August 7, 2009

I applaud the author for daring to share the history of profound pain and suffering. In doing so this book will encourage others with similar history to come out of hiding and shame, elements that should never be the experience of victims. However, as we see in Cheryl's journey, it is a mighty struggl to put the burden where it belongs, squarely on the shoulders of those who have abused and neglected the innocent.

The Song in the Silence

By Jonas K. Apau on July 16, 2009

"The Song in the Silence" is simply a book that will bring healing and a peace of a mind to thousands who have suffered the fate of incest or some sort of unwanted, unwelcomed and unauthorized sexual encounter with especially a family member. It encourages a dialogue between all on the topic and reality of societal evils of parental neglect and inconsistencies of love and caring for one another. I had the privilege and honor of editing this manuscript and I'm encouraged to say that, although the author has touched on and revealed a painful experience that many will "sweep under the mat" or "file on the shelf", the revelation will help bring a much-needed healing to millions who will read this book. "To God be the glory great things He has done."

These days we hear a lot about ''Life Coach''mentoring. But Cheryl Silvera's book'' A Song In The Silence" takes the coaching concept a step farther. The Author deftly shares her poignant but painful story of childhood trauma and mental suffering. Yet at the same time (from beginning to end ) the author coaches the reader along -with an underlying theme of recovery, hope, faith and the comfort she received from God,
whose precious, loving comfort is available to those who will receive it.
