The ancient book about the past holds the future. Frankie is the key. She doesn't remember stopping at the used bookstore, but there she stands as if drawn by an unseen force. Anticipation wraps around her like a cocoon. When she opens the door, the wind nudges her through, and expectancy turns to purpose. The man inside, and the book he offers, changes everything. Unusual things happen when she begins to read: In a time long forgotten, people are held captive by half human creatures. Ashra holds a secret close to her heart, and must discover the purpose of her gift before the oppressed human race is destroyed. An unlikely ally comes to her aid. Strangers bring her a message from a far off land. Ashra and her band of misfits set off in search of answers. Together, they find love, uncover mysteries from the past, face ever present danger, and hone powers they never knew they had. Frankie and Ashra are separated by millennia, by fiction and reality, but in the end the barrier shatters.

It took me some time to get into this book, but once I did it was exciting. I was happily carried away into the lives of Ashra, Bazine, Krank, Rucaine, Akira and others. I wanted to know more about these characters, their world and how they would defeat their enemy. I was so enthralled with the story that when it came to the ending I was disappointed, not because the ending was bad, but because I didn't want to leave this story. There has to be a book 2, I need to know if love blossoms between Ashra and Bazine, if they defeat the Glasne, what happens on the journey to Rucaine and Akira's homeland. What about the sparks between Bisha and Rucaine? My lovely Krank needs to survive.

Some readers might wonder why I gave this 5 star since I said it took some time for me to get into the story. Well it did take some time, but once Fleuric, Krank, Shemma and Perditus step into the story the changed the atmosphere of the story. There presence in the story let you know that it was going to be exciting, that it was a more purposeful story and you will want to know what role they play in the lives of Ashra and Bazine. Stick with this story and you will not be disappointed.
