Something unexplainable has happened to Greg, a rookie cop. One day, as he is working the mean streets of Denver, a dark feeling inside of him begins to bubble up. This 'thing,' which starts as a small voice having a conversation with him, is startling enough. Then the voice becomes stronger, and Greg is unable to control it.
He becomes obsessively driven by this inner voice telling him what to do. First it's small stuff, and then it's a command to go out and kill. The killing starts with road-rage drivers, then anyone whose looks 'it' doesn't like. Unable to control the voice and the urges, he cannot help alienating his wife and young daughter, who eventually leave him and move back to Kansas. Even when 'it' is silent, Greg begins screwing up at work on the force and increasingly getting into arguments. One black night out on a job, he ends up cornered by his own officers and is shot. 'Evil' has been conquered...or has it just been a sinister test?
This first book in the Greg Dorn Series by B.A. Sherman will have readers wondering how and why a guy like Greg could suddenly be taken over by some inner voice and turn to murder. The evil continues in book 2 but the plot takes a whole new twist.
