Lt. Tom Flynn expected to arrive in Purgatory someday, but not so soon and certainly not expecting to join the police force there whose job is to maintain law and order among a citizenry of witches, vampires and other creatures, as well as humans. But he did join the Transylvania Detective Squad, but he might not have if he'd known it meant taking on Jack the Ripper in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Jack wants to escape Purgatory so he could return to England some fifty years after his death, and Tom has to stop him, but even the most desperate, hastily-contrived plans of mice and men often go astray.
