Meece’s novel follows a sonar technician on the destroyer USS Abel in the South China Sea during the Vietnam War. Crew members become disgusted with their part in the immoral war and do a take-away. They take the ship from the officers and race the whole US Navy to China, seeking escape from the bondage of military coercion.
