Jeff Fenner is a small time drug dealer in Los Angeles. At the nadir of a rocky, sometimes up, usually down, career, Jeff is facing very current demons: he’s being investigated by the police, he owes money to the wrong people, and he can’t stop drinking long enough to turn things around. When he finds out that his sister Marilyn has died, Jeff embarks on a tortuous journey toward self-discovery and redemption that takes him to jail, to a self-help cult in Beverly Hills, and to the beautiful but troubled Holly. Demons of Holly’s past – childhood incest, a murdered father, and a history of epileptic seizures – ¬have led her to SOL (Saving Our Lives), a self-help group led by Dr. Art Bradley, who takes her under his wing. Unable to accept the verdict of suicide in his sister’s death, Jeff learns of a string of similar apparent suicides and comes to realize that Holly is the next target.
