Trust: The Alex Conner Chronicles, Book One is an urban fantasy written by Parker Sinclair. Alex Conner is a partner in a thriving party-planning business and loves the San Diego atmosphere where she lives, plays and works. She's quite at home with the late night hours her profession demands and doesn't really feel rested until late in the day. What little sleep Alex does get, however, has been plagued with horrifying dreams about the cruel and abusive step-father who made her and her step-sister's lives miserable. Alex has a small and supportive group of friends as well as Justin, whose love for her she's not quite sure she can return, but she still misses her mother who shared her awesome earth powers and her grandmother who was there for her when her mother couldn't be. She's not sure who she can trust anymore, especially with the secret of her healing and protective powers.
Parker Sinclair's urban fantasy, Trust: The Alex Conner Chronicles, Book One is a compelling and original story that kept me reading until the last page. The author gives the reader two perspectives on Alex's story: there's the present tense plot as well as a selection of entries from Alex's journal which date back to when she was a little girl living in motel rooms with her drug-addicted mother and continue up through to the present day. I marveled at the first hint of Alex's powers as described in her making the multi-colored pills in her mother's stash dance and twirl in the air and then again as she stands up to the evil Stephen and learns how to harness her powers despite her fears. Trust is an intense and powerful tale which works wonderfully. While there are a few erotic passages in the story, they are tasteful and very well presented. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this contemporary fantasy and am looking forward to reading Truth, the second volume of Parker Sinclair's The Alex Conner Chronicles. Trust is most highly recommended.
