I too had no idea what was happening to my aging but healthy body when I first felt something poking out where I least expected. It was frightening and my ob gyn nurse practitioner glibly said “oh it’s probably just your bladder falling down”. Thanks to this book more women don’t need to be needlessly frightened or made to feel it’s just nothing. And this book says yes…it is something. And you’re not alone! Courageously written…it couldn’t have been easy to write so personally unless the author knew it would benefit others who suffer from prolapse and feel alone. There are difficult decisions to be made on treatment options and this is one that’s often not even addressed. Thanks to the author for addressing it.
This is a courageous sharing of a medical condition which very few women will talk about as it is just too personal for casual conversation with anyone except our very closest friends. I have had this condition and several years ago found several Facebook support groups helpful. The author shared her experiences with one of the groups I am in. I bought her book thinking there would not be much new she could possibly say, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I learned from this candid account of her experiences with prolapse, the surgery, and her recovery at home. I am hoping to have this surgery this summer and this book helped me feel safer about it. Thank you Judith!
I am very glad that I read this book. It helped with my fears and helped me realize the benefit of my surgery decision.
I applaud the author for sharing her personal story. I highly recommend this book to anyone suffering with pelvic prolapse issues.
This book gives a frank discussion of a health problem many women face but few are willing to discuss. Very informative for women regardless of whether they've faced this problem yet or not. I highly recommend it.
This book has concrete advice for helping women understand to fix prolapse problems. It's extremely informative on a subject that is difficult to get good info on.
I found this book useful because it details a very personal experience. Doctors rarely have the time to go into much detail and I found the book very useful in explaining what to expect both before and after the operation.
This well written book takes you through the day-by-day of living with 4th degree prolapse, the decision to have surgery, the surgery day and the recovery period. It is extremely personal and helpful with practical tips for how to prepare for the operation. The author says she had to overcome her embarrassment to write the book which wasn’t easy. Women with prolapse panic when it happens muchlike young girls who are not educated about their first period. She mentions a supportive social mediaprivate women’s group to join. Doctors reading this book would know how to improve the quality of care for us. I hope they finally do.
This right here is a story each and every female (also male and everyone else) should read. The horror and struggles are very real and the information to prevent this is just not out there. This is an injustice to all who are born with a vagina. Her story (without the embarrassment) of a debilitating condition which women have no control over and have not had for many previous centuries. Thank you Judith.
Perfect book for someone going through the same issue. Provides a lot of information and helping tips.
I found this book to be very informative on a personal level. It explains how the author felt about her condition and how it impacted on her life. She give's a very informative look at the surgery, her doctor and her relationships with friends and family. She gives hope to those facing this condition with a calming tone to the writing. The story tells the gravity of the condition while balancing it with light moments of humor and a sense of hope. If you are going to have this surgery this book is also a good reference source of needed information.
The author writes an account of how it was for her to face a life of increasing discomfort and the decision to have surgery to repair the problem. Sometimes there aren’t any perfect choices. This book gives women a good idea of what they will face and how to recover with humor and grace. I am glad I read it. Very informative and worthwhile. She thanks her doctor which is a good sign that the operation was a success.
Vaginal Prolapse Colpocleisis Surgery - A Personal Story in Paperback and Kindle on Amazon
Vaginal prolapse is a painful, embarrassing condition which adversely affects the lives of countless women. This is my story of recovery and joy to help others.
Quote: “I wish the surgery had not been necessary and gynecologists who treated me over the years had said even one word about prolapse prevention. I feel very let down. It could have been prevented.”
— Judith Cutler
Vaginal Prolapse is usually a secret women do not share with anyone except their partner or doctor. Many of them feel ashamed to admit it has happened to such an intimate part of their bodies. One reason is they don't want anyone picturing the bulge it makes. Another is since most women say no one ever told them this was a possibility they have no idea who else in their circle has dealt with it and if so, how? After interacting with a supportive group of women on Facebook, Judith Cutler decided to tell a personal story of vaginal vault prolapse surgery and recovery.
This private group helps others by telling their stories of misery, surgeries and triumphs. The details of living with prolapse should not be kept secret, but shared with younger women to help them and prevent it happening to them. There are some preventions but only a few surgical cures. Colpocleisis LeFort Surgery is one that repairs prolapse and gives back freedom of movement and comfort. There is a serious trade-off which is reviewed in this book. It is an individual choice which is never made lightly. She made the choice and have not regretted it for a moment.
She only wishes it had not been necessary and that the gynecologists who treated her over the years had said even one word about prolapse prevention. She feels very let down by them. It could have been prevented. Judith hopes the advice in this book helps to prevent it for others. Sharing the information can help others. This is a story of sadness, recovery and joy. Edith's Facebook Group is: Colpocleisis, Surgical Vaginal Closing, Colpectomy, LeFort
Pre-teen us: "What is going to come out of where every month?!!!"
"Yes! But, only for about 40 years."
"What is going to go in where? Really to make a baby"
"What??? The baby is going to come out of where???"
So, thousands of diaper changes later, thousands of dirty dishes,
thousands of meals prepared and millions of days of cleaning and then the whole structure collapses and we are left trying to figure out what to do about it. No one told us this part. So along comes Edith and Facebook to the rescue! What did our mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers do? No FB. If you know someone who needs help have them join this friendly group. We help with advice, names of surgeons and personal stories. It is a woman only group and very private.
Judith thanks her surgeon Dr. Martina Chiodi Las Brisas OB/GYN, Murrieta, California for giving back her freedom of movement. She says she will always be grateful for Dr. Choidi's skill, warmth, care and humor.
