I have been riding horses since I was 7 years old. I'm 63 now. 1-day eventing, 3-day eventing, dressage and stadium jumping shows, equitation, trail riding and pleasure riding. I've worked with a lot of trainers, some great, others not so good. I've been bucked off, reared off, thrown into or over fences, bitten, kicked, and dragged when my foot got caught in the stirrup. I love horses, however my body was saying enough already. I needed to find a kinder, more gentle way of enjoying my life with my horses. I started searching and found Lucie Klaassen! Her online courses offered instruction on how to better connect with the heart, mind, and soul of your horse enabling a more trusting, safe, and rewarding relationship with them. Now she has written a book! When I read "Wired 4 Connection" I felt like I now held the "keys to the kingdom!" The door is open to understand what my horses think. Why they think and react the way they do. And, how I can now regulate my thoughts and actions to be the person they want to trust and be with. Lucie has an amazing ability to take a complex idea or topic and break it down into understandable steps. And, I think readers will find that as they understand their horse better, they will understand themselves better, and this will help them with relationships with other people too!

This book is an essential read for every horse owner. You will gain a deeper understanding of the brain and nervous system of your equine partner and how it effects connecting and learning. Understanding the polyvagal principles can help you work better with your horse’s true nature. You will learn how to deepen the connection with your horse and how to set up your training for optimal learning.
I see so much frustration in the horse world, often due to lack of connection and miscommunication. Horse owners come to me because of the ’problems’ they have in their horse training. However, I have learned it’s often not the horse, it’s the human that needs to be “trained”. More specifically, it’s the nervous system that needs to learn to regulate itself again.
Horses don’t care what you do, they care how you make them feel. They want to be with you when they feel safe with you. Feeling safe is the key element in Polyvagal Theory. In this book we will explore together how we can integrate the polyvagal principles into your horse training.
If this resonates with you, I warmly welcome you to join me on a journey. I believe that learning about Polyvagal Theory and how you can apply it to horses will help you bring more joy and ease into your horse training.
