Prominent youth-care specialist Charles D. Appelstein, MSW,
a motivational speaker and author, teaches positive, trauma-informed,
strength-based theories and techniques to parents and professionals who
guide at-risk children and youth. He trains and consults internationally for
treatment facilities, foster and adoption associations, parent groups, schools,
mentoring programs, and juvenile justice agencies. His award-winning
first book, The Gus Chronicles: Reflections From an Abused Kid, is used as
a training aid in hundreds of child welfare programs and colleges worldwide.
Former program director of the Nashua Children’s Home, a southern New
Hampshire–based residential program for kids at risk and their families,
Charlie lives in southern New Hampshire with his wife and teenage daughter.
