Claudine Cassar started to hustle at age 10. By the time she was 23 she had two degrees and five hundred books left over from a failed business venture – a book lending and delivery service.
Refusing to give up on her dream of setting up her own business, in 1998 she tried again, founding a web development agency. This time the business took off, and in 2016 she sold it to a Big Four firm and took the opportunity to start a new chapter of her life. Looking for a change of pace, and wanting to return to her first love, books, she started writing.
Nowadays she splits her time between caring for her family, chairing an NGO that focuses on helping children in care, and studying for an Anthropology degree. “The Battle for Sicily’s Soul, ” her first book, focuses on the origins and development of the Sicilian Mafia, breaking down the historical account into multiple moving parts and explaining how they came together over time to create the criminal social phenomenon that is Cosa Nostra.
In addition to writing books, Claudine also blogs about anthropology and global organised crime, on www.anthropologyreview.org and www.mafianews.org.
