Joan F. Wood
Joan F. Wood has worked in the entertainment industry for over forty years. Her extensive experience in film and video, documentary and studio shoots, live action and animation, voice over and music sessions gives Joan the ability to successfully manage the creative team.
In the educational arena, Joan served as the Writer/Senior Producer/director for THAT’S THE SPIRIT which aired on WORTV. In this capacity she wrote, produced and directed over 50 documentaries for the New York Arch Diocese. Joan also wrote and produced for SESAME STREET, ZOOM and 3-2-1-CONTACT.
In the Real Estate arena, Joan wrote the Naples, Florida script for the BBC series “Fantasy Homes”. The program shot in Naples won international recognition.
As an entrepreneur, Joan was Vice-President and Senior Producer of Like Magic Entertainment, Inc., a New York based independent production company. In this capacity, she wrote, conceived and produced a thirteen part, half-hour ShowTime Network. The series was nominated for an Emmy. educational series, KIDSTV, which was shot on location and in the studio.
Joan served as the Writer, Director and Supervising Producer for NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHILDREN’S TELEVISION. During her tenure, she supervised a 1.2 million dollar production budget and an equal dollar departmental budget. She supervised the writing and the creative and technical production of the REALLY WILD ANIMALS The series received universal acclaim and was nominated for five Emmy Awards.
Joan was also the Supervising Producer for GEOKIDS, which was the recipient of the prestigious Parent’s Choice Award.
Freelancing as a Writer/Producer/Director, Joan worked on a variety of commercial and entertainment shows, including: SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, SESAME STREET, THREE, TWO, ONE CONTACT, KING ARTHUR, THE BEST OF FAMILIES, MAX HEADROOM and the MS. USA and MS. TEEN PAGEANTS.
In Naples, Fl., Joan has worked with acting students at the Sugden Theater, The Marco Players, The S. W Florida Talent Agency and with many of her own private students. She wrote and directed the auditions for “DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB” and wrote and directed two television pilots: “WILD WOMAN, WILD ANIMALS” and ‘SWING YE NOEL” which aired on CBS on Christmas Day.
In New York City, Joan supervised and wrote the wrap-a-rounds for a special event concert for The Whiteweld Foundation: “A TRIBUTE TO ELLA FITZGERALD” with Patti Austin and The Count Basie Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.
Joan wrote and published books. One is called, The Casting Couch and me. The Casting Couch and me follows a young actress’ experiences with the casting couch while searching for acting work in the ‘biz’.
