“Pictures in the stories are connected by pictures made of words.”
K. L. Ross -Taylor was born the youngest of 6 children in 1953. Her next older sister, Candy, was a brittle diabetic with complications who at the age of 25 lost her vision. Kathryn loved to take her sister window shopping, where Candy enjoyed having Kathryn verbally describe everything to her that were in the windows and on the displays. Then before Candy passed, at the age of 26, she said how thankful she was to have Kathryn there to "see" and make magical pictures in her mind. In school, they told Kathryn she couldn’t be an artist because “They don’t make any money”, and being extremely dyslexic, she didn’t know what she would do for a living. Art and working with her hands were her natural gifts. When a friend saw her art work from school one day, they told her she would make a great dental technician. To that she asked, “What is a dental technician?” Once she found out she went to work training on the bench. When her sister Candy died in 1978 Kathryn relocated to Washington state where she met her husband Kevin. They had 2 daughters and in 1986 Kathryn won the Good Housekeeping Magazine "Gingerbread House Contest", a $10,000.00 cash prize. She and her husband decided to start their own dental lab. Kevin, also an amazing artist and musician, was immediately trained on the bench. At the age of 64, after 40 years as a dental tech (30 of those year as the dental lab owner), Kathryn was ready to write down all the stories she had outlined and saved over the years. Now she is concentrating her efforts on getting these amazing stories published. "Zip---Line Mice" is the first in a four-part seasonal series. While it was still in script, Kevin read it and said, “I think it needs illustrations.” So, Kathryn drew 60 beautiful illustrations to go with her story. She had so much fun creating and coloring them that she decided to make a "Zip---Line Mice Companion Coloring". She is working on the new paper doll cut outs to be published soon. Among her many talents, sculpting in wax is a skill she became proficient in while making teeth, so it came natural to also make jewelry charms of the little mice characters that Zip--- along on a silver serpentine smooth neck chain.

I would love to donate as many books to Hospital Pediatric Wards everywhere I can. I have been affected by Juvenile Diabetes treatment and loss and now my brother has been fighting Pancreatic Cancer for almost 6 years. Believe me when I tell you that I know the long silent endless hours of treatment. Any escape helps. Just a few hours of joy can sooth a spirit.
