Nancy Chong Whitman was born and raised in Hawaii. She has traveled extensively in China and Japan. Nancy Chong Whitman was born and raised in Hawaii. She has traveled extensively in China and Japan. In addition to her professional work as a mathematics educator, she pursued her passion for studying Japanese and Chinese history and culture. She studied Mandarin and Chinese Philosophy at the University of Hawaii. Later as a docent at the Honolulu Museum of Art, she expanded her study to Chinese and Japanese history and art. She studied and learned Chinese ink brush painting at the museum’s art school. Presently she continues to give selected tours at the museum. Upon retirement, she researched and wrote/spoke about the historical background of the Tsung Tsin Association of Honolulu. In addition, she has planned and chaired several Mid-Autumn Festival for the Association.
Nancy Chong Whitman is also the author of the children’s book: Counting Petals: Using Flowers of Hawaii published in 2023 by Gotham Books.
