Tom Quinn was born In Glasgow in 1948. Leaving scholl at the age of 15 he worked as a junior clerk with a Shipping Line, often delivering documents to ship captains in Glasgow Docks. His long career in shipping took him to live in Rotterdam and Antwerp and later Melbourne from where he made business trips to S.E. Asia and PNG. His first novel, Striking it Poor, set mainly in PNG won the HarperCollins Fiction Prize. Tom Quinn is marrried and lives in Melbourne with his wife, 3 adult children and 9 grandchildren.
