A Curious Fetish: Mandalas of a Secretive Mind
Raju Peddada, author

A Curious Fetish by the artist-author, Raju Peddada, is about scores of hand drawn ciphered, highly personal and contrasting images, as a visual catharsis for the “itches” he couldn't scratch. These itches were also capricious or calculated mental flashes, on issues ranging from American politics to Assyrian monuments being destroyed, or from Stendhal, to skateboarding and sex. But, For the most part, the images are a celebration of womanhood: their indispensable sexuality, awesome intuition and adaptive prowess. Images were deliberately drawn on black paper with silver ink, as a state of his mind, which saw issues only as black and white: truths or lies... hence, they are stark, yet, coded in high contrast, and provocative.

The texts are not captions, but spontaneous words for the drawings, and the titles reveal only glimpses of his conjuration process. Each viewer is at liberty to interpret the images as they like, and every image is valued at what it's able to generate in the viewer. His intent was to evoke, but they provoke, as well.
