State of Redemption
State of Redemption tells the story of an unsolved murder occurring in a small Vermont town that goes cold after a few months. It remains unsolved for thirty years until a former resident returns to escape the twin traumas of a stillborn child and the death of his spouse some months later. As he gets reacquainted with his former hometown, the central character discovers an event he witnessed as a child was not merely an assault, but a brutal murder. That leads to his discovery of that the killer is a member of the state's judicial and political elite, and begins a suspenseful process of bringing justice to his victim and her family.

State of Redemption is an intriguing political thriller. Upon his return to his childhood hometown in northern Vermont, Matt comes to realize that an assault he witnessed decades ago was in fact an as yet unsolved murder. He discovers that the crime and its subsequent cover-up involved prominent citizens with current day political ambitions. As the story unfolds, McKeown demonstrates a good understanding of politics, back room influence-wielding and human nature. The book is nicely paced with a well thought out plot. In addition to the engaging plot, there is substantial food for thought regarding justice and redemption from both personal and community perspectives. Read it!
