Lisa Longshire travels to Toronto to attend a history seminar, not knowing that she was set up by her best friend and Condan McScath to meet there her fated mate Alastair McScath. The soldier drugs, rapes and mutilates her, to the brink of death. When the brothers find her, Condan saves her by giving her his life and immortality. Alastair takes Lisa to his estate in Scotland but she does not get better, only worse. When he reaches his braking point he takes her to Avalon. There Lisa finally heals, learns about her powers and destiny. On Beltane Lisa and Alastair find each other again, and return happily to the world they came from.
