David Richard Beasley was born in Hamilton, Ontario. After graduating from McMaster University he lived in Europe studying French and German literature, writing, teaching and moved to Manhattan to marry his wife working at the United Nations. He taught school and spent 28 years as a research librarian at the New York Publ;ic Library. He organized and was the first president of the library workers' union. He has written over a score of fiction and nonfiction books. He was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his writings. He moved to Simcoe Ontario in 1992.
